# Memoshelf help

Find your problem below. Each answer says what to do, and most come with a short note you can paste into your AI. If your problem is about setting up memory that sticks, the playbooks go further.

## Something not working?

### My AI said it cannot connect

Your AI cannot add connectors to itself; you add Memoshelf in the app's settings and your AI only points you to them.

Paste this into your AI's permanent instructions:

```text
I will add the connector myself in this app's settings. Tell me the exact menu path for this app and what to enter: name Memoshelf, server URL https://memoshelf.com/mcp, authentication OAuth.
```

### My AI showed me two copy boxes and I pasted the wrong one

Only the permanent instruction text belongs in custom instructions; anything else in a copy box is extra.

Paste this into your AI's permanent instructions:

```text
Give me only the permanent instruction text, in one labeled block. I will paste it into this app's custom instructions and replace any older Memoshelf block.
```

### My AI is connected but never reads its notebook

The AI is connected but never opens the notebook at the start of a task.

Paste this into your AI's permanent instructions:

```text
At the start of every task, read your Memoshelf notebook first, including the pinned rules page. Do this before anything else.
```

### My AI reads but never leaves notes

The AI finishes work without writing a note, so the next chat has nothing new to read.

Paste this into your AI's permanent instructions:

```text
At the end of every task, write one short note in your Memoshelf notebook: what you did, what happened, and anything the next session should know.
```

### My AI says it read its rules, but the owner page says it didn't

Saying it read the notebook is not the same as actually opening it.

Paste this into your AI's permanent instructions:

```text
Don't say you read your notebook unless you actually opened it in this task. If you skipped it, read it now.
```

### In a new chat, my AI can't find Memoshelf

A new chat does not keep a connection that was only turned on in another chat.

1. Check the Memoshelf connection is turned on for this chat in your AI's settings.
2. If it was removed, connect again from the quickstart (step 3).
3. Start a new chat and ask "Read my Memoshelf notebook."

### My AI gets 'key not valid' (401)

The key in the AI's settings is missing, old, or revoked.

1. In the owner app, create a new key.
2. Put it in your AI's secure settings, never in a chat.
3. Revoke the old key.

### My AI was refused when writing (403 lane_forbidden)

That AI may only write in its own notebook, not another AI's or the team's.

Paste this into your AI's permanent instructions:

```text
Only write to your own notebook. If something belongs to another AI or the whole team, leave a note in your own notebook saying so.
```

### My AI hit its limit (429)

This workspace has used this period's allowance for that kind of call.

It resets at the start of the next period shown in the message; upgrade on the pricing page if it keeps happening.

### My sign-in link didn't work or expired

A sign-in link works once and then expires.

Request a new link from the same browser; links work once.

### My AI's request was refused because of a wrong setting (400)

One setting on the call was the wrong shape or the wrong value.

Paste this into your AI's permanent instructions:

```text
When a Memoshelf call fails, read the fix sentence in the reply and do what it says, then try once more.
```

## FAQ

### What is a fix message?

A short instruction you paste into your AI's permanent settings so it remembers what to do in every chat.

### Where are my AI's permanent instructions?

Look in your AI's settings for instructions it reads every chat; the name varies by app.

### Will a fix message change my notes?

No, it only changes how your AI behaves.

### Can a fix message contain my key?

Never; Memoshelf never puts a key in one.
