# Your AI forgot everything again. Here is the fix that survives a new chat.

Published 2026-10-21

Give your AI a notebook it reads before it answers. A chat's memory lives inside that chat; the moment you open a new one, or switch to a different assistant, the context is gone. The fix is not a longer prompt. It is a small shared record outside the chat: what you decided, what the AI did last time, and the rules it should follow. The AI reads it at the start of every session and writes one line at the end.

Memoshelf is that notebook. It connects as a custom connector to any assistant or bot that can add one, so the AI reads and writes it itself. You do not paste anything.

How it runs, in one example:

1. You connect Memoshelf once (sign in with your email; free plan, no card).
2. At the start of a task the AI calls `what_happened_last` and reads your pinned "How we work" page: the rules, the names of things, the last few results.
3. At the end it calls `store_note` with one line: what it did and what is next.
4. Tomorrow, in a brand-new chat, or in a different assistant, step 2 picks up exactly where step 3 left off.

What this does not do: it does not read your old chats. It only knows what was written to the notebook, which is the point. You decide what is worth remembering, and you can read, edit or delete every line on the account page.
